ESPIRITO SANTO PLAZA AWARDS CONSTRUCTION
CONTRACT TO AMEC, FORMERLY MORSE DIESEL INTERNATIONAL

MIAMI – Espirito Santo Plaza has awarded its construction contract to the former Morse Diesel International, Inc. (MDI) division of AMEC. One of the largest and most esteemed construction companies in the nation, the firm offers experience in preconstruction/construction consulting, construction management, program management and general contracting. MDI assumed the name of its parent company, AMEC, effective January 2001.

Bill Ross, president of Estoril, Inc., the project’s developer, and A.S. McGaughan, Jr., executive vice president, Southeastern Division of AMEC, made the announcement. Espirito Santo Plaza is a $160 million, 36-story, 1.2 million-square-foot high-rise scheduled to open at 1395 Brickell Avenue in 2003.

"From the earliest planning stages, we insisted that this building establish an architectural presence on Miami’s skyline that people around the globe will identify with the city," Ross said. To achieve that goal, the world-renowned firm of Kohn, Pederson & Fox created an icon design.

"Espirito Santo Plaza will capture the unique flavor and style of Miami like no other structure has done," Ross said. "Its construction requires the services of a highly experienced contractor. While we initially were attracted by the company’s sterling reputation, it was their understanding of our design intricacies that convinced us they are the right contractor." McGaughan added, "AMEC is honored and excited to be chosen to construct Espirito Santo Plaza, one of the most imaginative building designs our company has ever been involved with. We will employ our decades of construction experience to ensure that we deliver on budget and on time."

Headquartered in London, AMEC offers multi-disciplinary expertise in environmental planning, design, process engineering, construction, support services and cutting-edge technology.

Espirito Santo Plaza will front Brickell Avenue and extend a full city block, in the heart of Miami’s international financial district. The building will provide 300,000 square feet of Class-A office space, residential units ranging from studios to two-story penthouses, 7,500 square feet of retail space, restaurant facilities comprising 15,400 square feet, a 7,000-square-foot indoor fitness club, and a major, first-class hotel occupying 225,000 square feet that provides suite management for the condominium residences.
